Meet Eric & Michelle D.

We are Michelle and Eric. Michelle is 35 and works as a high school Special Education Teacher. She is the youngest of five girls, has six nieces, a nephew, as well as a few great nieces and nephews. Michelle and Eric get to see them often and enjoy playing and taking care of them. Eric is 30 and works as a cook in a local restaurant. He has one older sister and many cousins.

We were married in 2004. Unlike many other couples who consider adoption after struggling with infertility, we knew from the beginning that for our family to have to grow it would be through adoption. When Michelle was 21 she got sick and as a result of that illness she is unable to conceive or carry a child. Eric knew all about her illness because when the relationship began to get serious we talked about how he felt about it. We did consult a fertility specialist in case there was some new procedure, not that we expected anything to come of the visit, but you don’t know unless you try. He said we could try an in-vitro procedure, but he was rather positive it would fail due to Michelle’s medical history. He recommended that we pursue adoption instead.

We waited a few more years until we felt ready, as a couple, to take on the challenges of raising a family before we pursued the adoption path. Now we feel that we are ready to share our endless love, safe home, and caring families with a child. We have decided that Michelle will be taking time off when the child arrives, and Eric will switch his shifts to be home during the day while Michelle is working.
